Antonio, i have been reading about your cutting and bulking articles for about 30 minutes now, very very helpful. I am about to start a bulking diet for the winter until.. i saw were you said that it was best to lower your bodyfat to its lowest point before puttung any real muscle/fat on. Well i have 4 abs but the last two are covered by that last chunk of little fat the wont seen to go away, could you give me any advice about how many calories to go by along with fat, carbs, protein i should be taking in? Thankyou very much for your time and keep the articles coming

Antonio, all the debris needs to be removed before the foundation can be laid.

You are cutting to a low bodyfat. You don't necessarily need to see muscles, but I wrote this mostly for people who already have some muscle, who are generally the kind of people who go on Anabolic Diet-style diets. If you have absolutely no muscle whatsoever, I still recommend losing any excessive bodyfat first, but if you lack workout experience then your body is more likely to lose bodyfat regardless so it really doesn't matter as much.

It's really just been my experience and the experience of lots of people I know -- any attempt to put on muscle while there is still an appreciable level of bodyfat is hindered, and not much more than bodyfat is put on.

And I agree, light weight and high reps is a waste of time.

If you don't have any muscles, then what exactly are you cutting to? A foundation needs to be built in order to see the house. I am not saying bulk if your 25%+ bodyfat, what I am saying is that you should lift as heavy as you can.

Finally, an article which advocates cutting before trying to add mass. Go to any forum or site and tell them you're around 13-15% BF and you'll be told to eat big, lift big. I've always believed it to be much better to first cut your excess fat and then very gradually build up your muscles.

The yearly cycle is a cracking idea and I'll be doing an 8 week plan once my bodyfat is somewhere around 6-8%.

Can't wait for the sample diets. Glad to have you back!
